Cala Deià

Cala Deià is one of those magical places where nature has created a perfect setting between the mountains and the sea. This small cove, 70 metres long, with its crystal-clear waters and rocky terrain, has become a haven for those seeking more than just a typical beach.

Located on the west coast of Mallorca, just a 10-minute drive from the Hoposa Costa d’Or. This Mediterranean gem attracts both locals and tourists with its bohemian charm and unique atmosphere.

A perfect day in Cala Deià

If you're looking to experience Cala Deià to the fullest, planning your visit according to the time of day will make all the difference. On our blog, we suggest a perfect itinerary to make the most of this Mallorcan gem.

Arrive at dawn and enjoy the first rays of the sun.

To begin, we recommend arriving early at Cala Deià, especially during the summer months when the influx of visitors increases considerably. By arriving with the first light of the day, you'll find the cove almost to yourself.

The walk from the village of Deià to the cove takes around 25 minutes along a winding path that offers stunning views of the surroundings.

In spring, you can also enjoy the added spectacle of Torrent Major bringing water to the cove.

Experience midday swimming and underwater exploration

As the morning progresses, the crystal-clear waters of Cala Deià invite you to dive in. This small cove, 70 metres long, is perfect for snorkelling and diving, activities that will allow you to discover its rich seabed.

The turquoise, transparent waters reveal rocky formations and schools of colourful fish, making your swim an unforgettable experience.

Afternoon break after lunch in fish restaurants

After a refreshing swim, there's nothing better than enjoying the local cuisine. Cala Deià is home to two renowned restaurants: Ca's Patró March and Ca'n Lluc.

The first, located on a small cliff, became famous for appearing in the miniseries "El Infiltrado" and specialises in fresh fish and freshly caught seafood.

On the other hand, Ca'n Lluc, located on the beach itself, offers Mediterranean-inspired dishes with unbeatable views of the sea. We also recommend trying the grilled lobster, a local speciality.

If you prefer a more intimate meal or dinner, we recommend visiting the Restaurant Costa d’Or. Our restaurant in Deià, with views of the Mediterranean Sea, offers a wide range of traditional dishes made with local ingredients.

Be captivated by the sunset on the Mediterranean horizon

Finally, staying until sunset at Cala Deià or its surroundings is an experience you shouldn't miss. The colours of the sun as it sets over the Mediterranean Sea create a unique visual spectacle.

Alternatively, you can head to the Sa Foradada viewpoint, about a 20-minute drive away, considered one of the best spots in Mallorca to watch the sunset, with the distinctive rock formation as the main feature.

Essential activities in Cala Deià

Snorkelling in clear waters

The clear blue-green waters of Cala Deià create the perfect setting for snorkelling. As you dive, you'll discover a fascinating marine ecosystem with shoals of colourful fish and diverse rock formations.

Please note that you'll need to bring your own equipment, as there are no rental shops on the beach. For maximum enjoyment, choose early morning or late afternoon when the waters are calmer and visibility is better.

On the other hand, the surrounding cliffs hide small underwater grottoes that are only accessible by swimming, adding an element of adventure to your exploration.

Cómo llegar a Cala Deià: Rutas y accesos

Getting to this hidden paradise is simpler than you might imagine. From the Discover Mallorca blog by Hoposa Hotels, with accommodations in Puerto Pollensa, Cala San Vicente, and Deià, we share the best options for reaching this Mediterranean gem.

By car from Palma and other parts of Mallorca

The journey from Palma to Cala Deià takes approximately 50 minutes by car. To get there, you need to take the Ma-1110 road towards Valldemossa. After passing through this town, continue on the Ma-10 towards Deià, a spectacular route that winds along the Serra de Tramuntana with the sea as your travel companion.

Upon reaching Deià, stay alert because the turnoff to the cove appears just after you exit the village (on the left if coming from Palma). This descent to the coast is a narrow, winding road about 3 kilometres long, which you should navigate with caution, especially during peak season when there is more traffic.

Public transport options

If you prefer not to drive, you can use bus line 203 that connects Palma with Deià, operated by the Consorci de Transports de Mallorca. This service departs from Palma Intermodal Station and takes approximately 45 minutes to reach Deià. Buses run every hour throughout the day. From the village bus stop to Cala Deià you will have to walk, as there is no public transport service to the beach. The nearest stop to the cove is "S'Empeltada 2", although it is still about a 20 minute walk.

The descent on foot from the village of Deià

A highly recommended option is to park in the village and walk down to the cove. The path is well signposted and begins on D'es Clot Street, near the Refugi de Can Boi. This pleasant walk, approximately 30 minutes long (1 km), will allow you to enjoy spectacular views of the sea and mountains.

The path runs parallel to the stream and, although it has a slight incline, it is accessible for people of all ages. Along the way, you'll find some interesting features, such as well-preserved old washhouses.

Where to park near the cove

There is a small car park about 150 metres from the beach, but be aware that it is chargeable between April and October. Also, being a very limited space, it tends to fill up quickly during the high season.

So the best option is to park in one of the two public car parks in the village of Deià and walk down. This way you'll avoid parking problems and enjoy a pleasant walk down to the cove.
