How to go to Formentor from Pollensa - Shuttle Bus
Visiting Formentor is one of the experiences we always recommend to our clients who visit our hotels in Puerto de Pollensa.
In this post we are going to give you all the details so you can visit the beach or the lighthouse of Formentor on your next visit to Pollensa. Access to the area has been limited since 2018, so it is important to take into account the limitations that we are going to explain.
If you have any doubts, remember that you can always consult the staff of our hotels to help you with anything you need.
Access limitations to Formentor by car
Access to the Formentor Peninsula is limited for private cars from 1 June to 30 September (dates valid for 2024). Therefore, you must use the 7 twelve-metre shuttle buses at your disposal to access the peninsula.
You should know that at the access to the Formentor road there are cameras installed to detect number plates. All cars that pass within the prohibited hours and do not have a special permit are automatically fined.
Formentor's off-limits access times
The access limitations are in force every day from 10am until 10.30pm. Within these hours, you must not be in your car within the delimited area starting in Puerto de Pollensa.
Access exceptions
The general prohibition of access to the Formentor road has some exceptions, which are detailed below:
- Cyclists alone or in groups
- Hikers on foot
- Residents of the Formentor peninsula
- People with reduced mobility (with prior authorisation)
Under no circumstances may you enter during the prohibited hours with a private car, unless it is one of the above exceptions. Motorbikes and mopeds are not allowed.
How to request authorisation to go to Formentor by private car
If you need to request authorisation to go to Formentor in your car with a person with reduced mobility, you must do so at least three days in advance. To do so, you must send an email to the address
In the case of going to Formentor beach there is a car park whose users can also access the first section of the road. However, you must prove that you have used it by sending a copy of the ticket to the address
Access to the lighthouse is not permitted under any circumstances, not even with special authorisation.
How to get to Formentor by Bus
For all those interested in visiting the beach or Cape Formentor, the public transport organisation of the Balearic Islands offers a shuttle bus service with an average frequency of 35 minutes: TIB line 334 Alcúdia-Formentor.
This bus line to Formentor departs from 9:35 am in Alcúdia in the direction of Formentor. The last return journey from the lighthouse is at 21:50 in the evening. Between these two times, the seven buses that make up the line run non-stop with an average frequency of 35 minutes.

Boat trip to Formentor
Another alternative way to visit Playa de Formentor is to take one of the boats or catamarans that arrive at the Formentor quay.
These boats leave from mid-morning from the marinas of Puerto de Pollensa and Puerto de Alcúdia. At the ports you will find information booths where you can buy tickets. The price is around €30 depending on the origin and type of excursion.
The surroundings of Cape Formentor
If you don't know the area of the Formentor peninsula very well, we are going to give you a bit of information about it.
The Formentor peninsula is located in the north of the island of Mallorca, at the end of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Formentor belongs to the municipality of Pollensa, where you will find most of the Hoposa Hotels.
The Formentor viewpoint
Halfway along the Formentor road, you will come to one of the most impressive viewpoints in the whole of Mallorca.
Especially at sunset, it has views that you're sure to have seen on hundreds of postcards. The bus stops at this viewpoint, so we recommend you spend a few minutes here.
The beach and the island of Formentor
After the viewpoint you will find one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Its white sand makes the water a clear turquoise colour. Opposite the beach is the island of Formentor. A small islet inhabited only by seagulls and other birds.
On Formentor beach there are services such as a car park (with very limited capacity), a restaurant and a hotel closed for renovations.
The Formentor Lighthouse
At the end of the winding road to Formentor, you will find the Formentor lighthouse. This lighthouse is still in operation and shines its light on the northernmost point of the island of Mallorca.
